MC-Ph 5 – Physics Atoms

In physics, an atom is the smallest, fundamental unit of ordinary matter that retains the properties of a chemical element. Composed of a dense, positively charged nucleus (protons and neutrons) surrounded by a cloud of negatively charged electrons, atoms are roughly 10^-10 meters (10 to the power – 10) in size. They are the building blocks for all physical substances.
